The global fashion world is always buzzing with fashion weeks and spectacular fashion related events like the “Met Gala.” The highly anticipated Met Gala 2024 had a theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, but the dress code and general theme was set as “Garden of Time.” Many global celebrities walked the Met Gala 2024 red carpet and created a buzz, with some wearing beautiful artisanal dresses, and some over-the-top costumes.

Alia Bhatt graced the Met Gala 2024 in a stunning mint-green saree designed by Sabsyasachi. This saree had all the Indian elements and it took a mammoth “1965 – man hours” to complete it. The designer and his team of 165 artisans that included master artisans, artists, master craftspeople, dyers, embroiders, pooled in a collective effort and completed this saree. Traditional craftsmanship amalgamated with avant-garde aesthetics gave this saree a unique and old-world charm with a dash of modern flair.
Alia Bhatt’s saree by Sabyasachi for Met Gala 2024 featured precious gems and a whopping 23 feet train. This unique and beautiful saree made Alia Bhatt the “most visible celebrity” at Met Gala 2024 leaving behind the likes of Kendal Jenner, and Kylie Jenner on the 2nd and 3rd ranking. Her earnings quickly generated $4.2 million in EMV (Earned Media Value), that shows how good she and the saree was at the event.

Isha Ambani the daughter of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani walked the Met Gala 2024 red carpet in a Rahul Mishra creation. The hand-embroidered and artisanal couture sari-gown embraces sustainability and portrays a message of the state of our planet and hope and rebirth. The Indian designer Rahul Mishra made the whole of India as his studio as Isha Ambani’s sari-gown was handcrafted by weavers and craftspeople spread throughout the villages of India.
According to the designer Rahul Mishra, the sari-gown for Isha Ambani took a mind-blowing 10,000 man hours. It was replete with elements like flowers, dragonflies, butterflies, infused with embroidery design appliques like Dabka, Fareesha, Zardozi, and Nakshi.
- Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling set the ball rolling on the Met Gala 2024’s red carpet by adorning a stunning Gaurav Gupta creation. The design portrayed in the nude couture gown with the cape starting above the shoulders and ending in a train. The dress is aptly named as “The Melting Flower of Time” that shows the journey of a bud, into a blossoming flower, and wilting in the end. This beautiful dress amalgamates both time and garden.

Natasha Poonawalla walked the Met Gala 2024 red carpet in a Maison Margiela's Artisanal Collection designed by John Galliano. She is known for her extravagant looks and fashion. She showcased maximalist fashion by choosing a sculptured (white) bodycon dress, intricately draped with detailing of sheer black torn chiffon.
- Sabyasachi
Sabyasachi walked the Met Gal 2024 red carpet, thus making him the 1st Indian fashion designer to do so. He donned a relaxed yet sporty look from his very own “Sabyasachi Resort 2024 Collection”. The designer further accentuated his looks with accessories and jewellery like diamonds, tourmalines, emeralds, pearls from Sabyasachi High Jewellery Collection. Sabyasachi as a brand did outperform Oscar de la Renta, and Burberry at the event!

The CEO of Forbes Next 1000 honoree, Mona Patel, made a stunning debut on the Met Gala 2024 red carpet in an Iris van Herpen gown. The off-shoulder, body hugging gown takes it inspiration from fluttering butterflies being in tune with the general dress code of the event. The main highlights were the 3D butterflies on the sleeves, which cast a magical touch and made did spellbound onlookers.

Urfi Javed is a renowned celebrity especially known for her unique, sartorial, and sometimes bizarre costumes. She never misses a chance to hog the limelight, and she certainly did stun everybody with her garden themed dress. She stepped out in the city wearing a black gown adorned with leaves and flowers design, showcasing the Met Gala theme. The amazing highlights of the dress were the tiny butterfly motifs which fluttered whenever she clapped her hands.
